get started
Start out with your image. It should be greyscaled, so if the image you want to use is colorful, go to Image >> Adjustments >> Desaturate. It can be any size, mine is 100x100 for an icon.

Duplicate the image, sharpen and set to Screen 30%. Merge Visible.

Create a new layer and fill it with #00a99d. Set the layer to Darken.

Duplicate the icon image and drag it to the top. Set it to Soft Light 100%.

Right click the duplicated layer of your image in the layers palette, and hit Merge Down. The duplicated image will then merge with the colored layer, and the image will become less sharp.

Paste on this icon texture (from here) and set it to darken.

Now paste on THIS icon texture (also from here) and set it to screen.

Lastly, paste on this icon texture and set it to darken. (also from here; colors inverted)

And you're finished ! Hope your icon came out the way you wanted it to.
