Blending
In Gimp
Before I get yelled at for explaining this wrong (lol), please note I JUST downloaded this for my visitor's requests. I'm not a master at this, and I just wanted to make that clear. Thanks :)

1. Get your images. I'll be using these:

2. Create an 800x800 document in Gimp. Paste in your first image.

3. Create a new layer (Layer >> New layer) then paste in your second image.

4. Select the Free Select tool.

5. Change your settings to mine:

TIP: For this next step - Make sure you're on the pasted layer of your second image and not your first. If your pasted image is a selection (which it should be!), use the Free Select tool and just click outside of the image.

6. Use your Free Select tool to draw a selection around the area you wish to blend the image. If you don't get what I just said, look at the picture below.

7. Hit the delete button on your keyboard and part of the image should delete, and it should be feathered. If you want to erase more of the image, click outside of the selection, and then repeat step 6.

8. Now, go to Image >> Merge Visible Layers. Crop and add effects and text. Mine came out like this:

Hope this helped you, and that your image came out the way you wanted it to! If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to email me at rjsandbach @ msn.com.
